Jordan is home to large refugee communities from across the region, creating a rich but complex social landscape. With nearly a third of the population consisting of migrants and refugees, and most Jordanians under the age of 30, Al-Musiqa Tajm’ana uses music to bring young people from different backgrounds together.

Through music leadership training and community music programmes, the initiative strengthens resilience, positive identity and belonging for refugee and Jordanian children and young people alike.

Building Communities Through Music

Meaningful change starts with local people. Al-Musiqa Tajm’ana equips musicians, teachers and community practitioners with the skills to lead inclusive music programmes that support children facing displacement, disability and other forms of vulnerability. Together, they create safe spaces where young people can connect, express themselves and grow.

Mission

Every week, Al-Musiqa Tajm’ana supports children and young people through inclusive music programmes led by trained local music leaders. By combining practical training with community partnerships, the programme builds sustainable local capacity while expanding access to music for vulnerable communities. Current priorities include:

• Music Leadership Training Musicians, music students and teachers receive practical training to facilitate inclusive music activities that strengthen wellbeing, resilience and social connection.
• Music for Vulnerable Communities Trained music leaders deliver regular workshops for children with refugee backgrounds, children in care, young people in juvenile centres, women in shelters and children with disabilities.
• Strengthening Local Capacity Together with local and international partners, the programme continues to develop a sustainable network of skilled music leaders who can respond to the needs of their own communities.
