Many children in the Bethlehem region grow up amidst ongoing conflict, economic hardship and restricted opportunities. Bara’em Ghirass creates safe, creative spaces where children and young people can express themselves, build confidence and strengthen their sense of belonging through music.

In partnership with the Ghirass Cultural Center, the programme reaches children from Bethlehem, nearby villages and refugee camps, while also supporting families through shared musical experiences.

Growing Through Music

Bara’em Ghirass—Arabic for buds of young trees—symbolises hope, resilience and growth. Through music-making, children discover their own creative voice, build meaningful relationships and develop confidence in themselves and their community. By embracing Palestinian musical traditions alongside inclusive music practices, the programme strengthens both cultural identity and social connection.

Mission

Every week, Bara’em Ghirass provides inclusive music programmes for children and young people across the Bethlehem district. Together with the Ghirass Cultural Center, the programme creates opportunities for creative expression while strengthening families and communities. Current priorities include:

• Music for Children and Youth Instrumental lessons, choirs, ensembles and music-and-movement workshops provide accessible opportunities for children of all backgrounds to learn, create and perform together.
• Supporting Families Regular music sessions for mothers offer opportunities to reduce stress, build supportive relationships and experience the benefits of music-making alongside their children.
• Heritage and Inclusion Traditional Arabic music and instruments are woven into the programme, strengthening cultural identity while promoting gender equality, participation and belonging for all children.
