Decades after the civil war, many communities in El Salvador continue to face the effects of violence, migration and poverty. Armonía Cuscatleca supports children and young people through music, creating safe spaces where they can develop confidence, creativity and meaningful connections with others.

Based in San Pedro Perulapán, the programme offers an alternative to violence by helping young people build positive identities and become active contributors to their communities.

Through free music education and collective music-making, Armonía Cuscatleca helps rebuild the social bonds weakened by conflict, migration and inequality.

Mission

Every week, Armonía Cuscatleca provides free music education and creative opportunities for children and young people in and around San Pedro Perulapán. Through local leadership and long-term community engagement, the programme helps participants develop musically while strengthening resilience, confidence and social connection. Current priorities include:

• Accessible Music Education Free lessons, rehearsals and performances ensure that children and young people can develop their musical talents regardless of their financial circumstances.
• Positive Youth Development The programme nurtures creativity, self-esteem, teamwork and leadership, encouraging participants to become positive role models within their communities.
• Strengthening Community Connections By bringing children, families and neighbourhoods together through music, Armonía Cuscatleca helps rebuild trust and strengthen community life in areas affected by violence and migration.
